Vital Connection is a volunteer/community based organisation which provides a "Soup Kitchen" service for the homeless of inner city Brisbane. It operates on a "Not-For-Profit" basis.
The soup kitchen has operated since 1995 and is currently providing hot vegetarian meals three nights (Saturday, Sunday & Monday) of the week at Emma Miller Place in Roma Street Brisbane. We aim to be there 52 weeks in the year commencing at 7pm.
We are now also planning an extension of our services to develop and offer alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs and counseling services for those addicted and their families and friends. These would be based on many principals taken from many areas of endeavor, including and especially, but not limited to:
These programs are currently being developed and will be reviewed by a group of specialists in this area. If you are interested in these activities and want more information, please contact us.
Just existing from day to day is an effort in it self these days for most of us. Much time has been spent at Vital Connection recently on consolidating the soup kitchen service by improving each component. There is much more left to do.
Additionally, effort has been made in submitting an unsuccessful application to the Australian Government for funding of alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs. This was just a start and now comes the big effort necessary to learn from this experience and to move forward to success next time.
More of the same - and more research into what's happening into this area of endeavor in Australia - most of all, steps to improve the lot of our wonderful friends the "streeties".
